A Weekend Getaway: Pepper's Mineral Springs

Steen and I took a trip to Pepper’s Mineral Springs over the weekend, a much needed weekend away without work (or maybe just a little bit of work) and mostly some time to relax. This was sort of a belated birthday surprise for Steen. I’ve briefly mentioned before that living and working towards your dream means a lot of sacrifice and in this case we finally had a weekend free together to celebrate his birthday.. a month or so late.

And what a weekend it was!

Since we moved to Victoria, we have visited The Great Ocean Road and Mornington Peninsula various times, Phillip Island, The Grampians and even Lakes Entrance but we’d never been to Daylesford. Now, I wish we had of gone sooner!

Only an hour and a half away from our house we drove through the scenic countryside, the drive felt surreal by reminding us of the drive to Steen’s parents home in QLD.

We arrived at Peppers Mineral Springs and caught up with the owners for a delicious Pinot and chatted about life, being business owners and the hotel history. The hotel has such nice décor in their interior I was wandering through here and the beautiful gardens gasping “oh wow!” at each turn - but the best was yet to come.

Steen and I were booked in for a Twilight Mineral Spring Experience and it was just Amazing! Amazing! We went from the hot springs, to the sauna and lavender steam room, to the cold dip pool and then jumped straight back into the Mineral Hot Spring. Both of us walked out of their feeling SO relaxed and on cloud nine. I couldn’t recommend this experience enough!

Straight afterwards we went to Argus, which is the restaurant inside the hotel. The dimly lit atmosphere made it feel like we had the whole place to ourselves and a combination of being so relaxed from the spa plus some wine, made us slow down for once and have a 5 course meal. It was worth every mouthful.

I’m the first to admit that my favourite restaurant is one where I go regularly and order 1 of 3 dishes on rotation each time and pay less than $15 for the whole thing.. but this opened our eyes to a whole new realm of food and taste. Steen actually said to our waiter “That was the best meal I have eaten in my entire life.” We don’t do this often, actually we never do this.. we hardly ever get time for anything besides take away and watching TV together whilst working on various projects, so again worth every mouthful and every cent! I would actually go back just to have those 5 courses over and over again. And for the Mineral Hot Spring of course!

The rest of the weekend we explored the area, we walked around Lake Daylesford, visited Jubilee Lake and climbed the tower at Wombat Hill Botanical gardens. We ate local and fresh farm food, went to a local pub as well as getting rained out  so spent sometime relaxing in the amazing tub in our room (see pictured).

This weekend was a belated indulgence of the best kind.

Thank you Pepper’s for having us and allowing us to share your beautiful hotel, we can’t thank you enough. Both Steen and I will definitely come back and visit those Mineral Hot Springs and for the food again, soon. x
